2023-03-04

CHAMPE/LIGHTRIDGE SCORE TWO IN THE THIRD TO WIN CHAMPIONSHIP

Coach Rick Harrison's John Champe/Lightridge defeated Kettle Run/Rappahannock 5-3 in the NVSHL Provisional Championship game played before a full house at the Ashburn Ice House. In a even game, Harrison's team got on the board in the first minute as Shane Siwik took a perfect pass from All State forward Landon Street for a quick 1-0 lead.  The lead didn't last long when Kettle Run's Ryan Dachowski fired a rocket pass Champe/Lightridge goalie Zak Ismail.  Champe/Lightridge Captain Mason St Onge put them back on top 2-1 on a great individual effort.  Champe/Lightridge Jason Tian then scored from in tight to put them up 3-1.  Kettle Run/Rappahannock the defending NVSHL Provisional Champions, were not going easily.  Collin Malloy and Dachowski scored before the ice break to tie it at 3-3.  Champe/Lightridge Jake Harrison put them back on top midway thru the third period making it 4-3.  Brady St Onge with an assist from brother Mason gave Coach Harrison some breathing room with seven minutes left making it 5-3.  Kettle Run put heavy pressure on the Champe/Lightridge defense in the final seven minutes, but led by defensemen and Captains Chris Urben and Mason St Onge, plus the goaltending of Ismail, Kettle Run couldn't get the equalizers.
