PLAYER OF THE YEAR KHAZAI ENDS IT IN OTBefore a capacity crowd at the Ashburn Ice House, Coach Patrick Keough's Langley Saxons repeated as the NVSHL Champions. NVSHL Player of the Year Kam Khazai scored his second goal of the game at 15:15 of the first OT to end a game that kept the standing room only crowd on its feet the entire game. In a game that was evenly played, Khazai got Langley on the board first with two minutes left in the first period on feeds from Noah Scheinerman and Cole Samburg. Briar Woods answered back when Captain Derek Yamatani scored from the point early in the second Period. Three minutes later Aidan Jacques put Langley back on top 2-1. Briar Woods Grant Leeds answered back thirty seconds later to tie the score 2-2. After that both goalies, Langley's Harrison Smith and Briar Woods's Brady Knode were tremendous keeping both offenses off the board. Then Khazai taking a pass from Scheinerman rifled a perfect shot pass Knode ending one of the best games ever played in the NVSHL.
The two top seeded teams move on to a rematch of last year's final in very different ways. Briar Woods was down 4-0 when they called timeout with 3:58 left in the second period. After the timeout, Coach Powell's Falcons scored seven unanswered goals in beating Independence 7-4.
The line of Zach Posusney, Zach Greenland and Joey Greenland took over the game scoring five of those goals. In the nightcap, Coach Patrick Keough's, undefeated and number one seeded Langey Saxons defeated Yorktown 5-1. Langley controlled the play from start to finish outshooting Yorktown 2-1. Yorktown's goalie, Alex Andreev kept Yorktown in the game until the very end, when Langley scored two late goals. Kam Khazai led the Langley attack with the Hat Trick.
This sets up the matchup for all the marbles on Friday night starting at approximately 7:30pm at the Ashburn Ice House. The Provisional State Championship game between John Champe/Lightridge and Kettle Run/Rappahannock will start at 5:30pm.
